New Series of APM Observatory Domes offered now
The company's core business includes the creation and sale of telescopes, mounts, clamshell and traditional observatory domes, planetarium domes for outdoor and indoor use, optics (including large diameter) and complete observatories.
Our observatory domes are available with clamshell opening or with traditional mechanics. They are designed for use in various sectors, including scientific research and Optical Ground Station, SSA and SST applications. The rapidity in the opening and closing operations makes clamshell domes ideal for professional observation and for use in Environments where sudden changes in atmospheric conditions can occur. They can accommodate more than one telescope and do not require coordination between the pointing system and the dome itself. Clamshell domes are often chosen by operators involved in satellite and space debris tracking and in the laser communication field. Traditional domes (with double or single shutter) make resistance their strong point. They offer complete protection from adverse weather conditions and are assembled with high quality aluminum profiles and panels. The design is carried out by us with the utmost consideration for the solidity, safety and reliability of the structure. This type of dome is highly suitable for use in astronomy (both amateur and professional) and in scientific research.
Clamshell domes produced by us are available in diameters of 2.4 meters (SKU: AA-CL-24), 3 meters (SKU: AA-CL-30) and 4 meters (SKU: AA-CL-40) and feature a one-meter high base cylinder. The dome and base cylinder frames are made of galvanized steel tubes, while the covers use aluminum panels. The interior is lined with 2.5 mm
thick black anti-condensation material. The internal electrical system is protected by a magnetothermal differential and an emergency stop switch.
Entirely designed by us, the Dome Control System (DCS) is the electronic control system supplied with the domes produced by the company. The DCS is based on a fast and reliable microprocessor and a real-time operating system developed in-house, so as to guarantee speed and state-of-the-art stability. It also boasts dedicated software for diagnostics and firmware updates and can be controlled in real time via an integrated web server. The versatility of the DCS is ensured by the compatibility with different
types of motors, the body with DIN rails for easy mounting and the wiring with push-in terminals that do not require the use of tools.
The DCS has also been designed to offer first-rate precision and connectivity options, mainly thanks to the detection of the position of the point of origin via an inductive sensor and an encoder and support for ASCOM Alpaca. Finally, we offer customers additional cards that allow the DCS to control clamshell domes and wireless shutters.
