The Bahtinov mask is a simple yet effective tool that can significantly improve your telescope’s focusing. When used in conjunction with the ZWO Seestar S30 Pro’s autofocus mode, it offers a very simple and quick way to achieve razor-sharp images.
- Place the mask on the telescope and point it at a bright star.
- Switch on the camera and observe the constellation on the Live View screen or on your computer.
- Use a star of medium brightness for focusing; it should not be too bright, but nor should it be too dark. The reflection lines must be clearly visible.
- The star should not be positioned exactly in the centre, as the field of view of a corrected telescope or lens is often not 100% flat. Choose a star in the outer third of the field. This will give you better overall sharpness across the entire image.
