TS Optics 2" Concenter collimation eyepiece for Newtonian telescopes

Simple adjustment of primary and secondary mirror

The alternative to all adjustment methods on the market! Now the center of the secondary is being taken into account (without a mark in the center). The adjustment is being done with the fully illuminated focuser . Even the Newtonian offset is considered.

The Concenter is being produced especially for TS Optics.

Simple collimation

The Concenter consists of a Chesire-like tube with the big difference: a special made disk with rings on it. The adjustment process uses the edge of the secondary mirror which means that also the offset is being taken into account. This is much more precise than a laser as it covers the entire field and not just the center.

The Concenter uses the film container method supplemented by the concentric rings. The adjustment can be done on daytime and also at dawn, just a little bit of rest illumination is necessary.

Offset considered

Your collimation takes the offset of the telescope into account (mechanically solved offset assumed). If you already have a center mark on your secondary mirror, it is not visible in the center of the concentric rings but shifted by the offset. Only if you have a pre-calculated offset mark on your secondary, it appears centric in the concentric rings.

Collimation instruction

If you hold the adjustment eyepiece in your hand, you will notice a transparent plastic disc with a central bore and concentric engraved circles inset on the telescope side at the lower end. At the other end you will find a central hole, which is chosen so small that the eye has no opportunity to avoid centering when looking through. After inserting the collimation eyepiece into the focuser you will see faint translucent rings in front of the optical components of the telescope.

1. Collimation of the focuser

Cover the main mirror and pay attention to a good illumination. Now the secondary mirror, a rectangular mounting of the focuser supposed, is adjusted so that it appears between the circles of the collimation cicles and without offset. With the focus control of the focuser you can bring the outer edge of the secondary mirror and the matching circle to cover. Even small deviations from the ideal position are recognized immediately.

2. Alignment of the secondary mirror to the main mirror

While looking into the eyepiece, the tilting is changed by means of the screws of the secondary mirror until the bright reflection of the main mirror in the secondary mirror is concentric with the circles.

3. Alignment of the main mirror to the optical axis

In the dark it requires a good illumination of the annular disc, e.g. with a LED lamp. Now the primary mirror center marker can be adjusted between the brightly lit circles. Reflections from concentric circles on the secondary mirror can cause confusion in the beginning. Practice handling before the set is used for the first time.

Adjust only to the primary circles in the collimation eyepiece.

A final adjustment on the star is not necessary an exact adjustment presumed.
